DENVER, CO (Jan. 18, 2019) – Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (SPM) announced today, from its 2019 IndyCar Series season unveiling at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., a significantly deepened partnership with Arrow Electronics, Inc. The Denver-based technology company is now the title partner of the newly branded Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, providing additional technical expertise and resources to the racing team.

The three Dallara-Honda Indy cars of James Hinchcliffe, Robert Wickens and Marcus Ericsson were on display this morning at the home of the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Mammoth. The Nos. 5, 6 and 7 displayed the team’s new signature black and gold previously seen on the Honda driven by Hinchcliffe since 2015. Longtime fans of the team will notice the chrome on the cars has changed to a futuristic, sleek matte finish.

While Wickens will not compete in the 2019 IndyCar Series season as he continues his rehabilitation and recovery after an accident during the 2018 season, the No. 6 Arrow Electronics Honda was on display to signify the team is keeping the No. 6 car ready and available for the Canadian whenever he is able to and wants to return to racing.

The Arrow SPM team also continues its technical alliance with Meyer Shank Racing and its No. 60 AutoNation/SiriusXM Honda driven by Jack Harvey although the car was not on display for today’s announcement. Arrow SPM will continue to provide full-time engineering and technician staff to see the car through from the initial build to on-track performance.

The relationship with Arrow began with SPM co-owner Sam Schmidt in 2014 through their collaboration on the semi-autonomous motorcar (SAM car). That was the same year Schmidt, a quadriplegic, drove the SAM car over 90 mph and 100 mph on consecutive days using the Arrow technology embedded in the car. The following year in 2015, the electronics company joined the race team as a primary partner on Hinchcliffe’s No. 5 car; the number a nod to the company’s “Five Years Out” vision that is about “guiding innovation forward to help you create a better tomorrow.”

DETROIT – INDYCAR announced on Tuesday that global information technology and communications leader NTT has signed a multiyear agreement to become the entitlement sponsor of what is now officially named the NTT IndyCar Series.

In addition, NTT becomes the official technology partner of INDYCAR, the NTT IndyCar Series, Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500. The announcement came during media days for the North American International Auto Show at the Cobo Center.

“Having a strong technology partner is critically important to INDYCAR’s continued growth, so we are thrilled to welcome NTT as our new title sponsor,” said Mark Miles, president and CEO of Hulman & Company, which owns INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “INDYCAR’s rise in popularity is a testament to the fact that we’ve made the sport as accessible as possible to our fans, and we plan to continue in that mission.

“We have a history with NTT through NTT DATA’s involvement in the sport with Chip Ganassi Racing. We know this partnership will help us attract the next generation of fans to what remains the most competitive racing program on the planet.”

NTT has a 150-year history in technology and communications, dating to its roots in 1869 when the telegraph was first introduced in Japan. NTT was established in 1952 as a government-owned corporation and privatized in 1985. The company is globally a top-five IT services provider and generates more than $106 billion in annual revenue. NTT DATA, a U.S.-based NTT subsidiary headquartered in Plano, Texas, has been a sponsor with Chip Ganassi Racing in the NTT IndyCar Series since 2013.

Under the new agreement, INDYCAR and NTT will partner to deliver digital innovations for sanctioning body INDYCAR and its events. This includes evolution of the INDYCAR mobile application and integration of NTT’s proprietary Smart Platform to support the most diverse and challenging series in motorsports and its racing venues.

The NTT IndyCar Series puts many of the best racers in the world on the most demanding variety of tracks to decide the season champion and recipient of $1 million and the Astor Cup. Competition takes place on temporary street circuits, permanent road courses, short ovals and superspeedways like the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 2019 season consists of 17 races, starting with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 10, including the 103rd Indianapolis 500 on May 26 and concluding with the INDYCAR Grand Prix of Monterey on Sept. 22.

INDYCAR’s expanded presence on network television in 2019 through its new partnership with NBC Sports Group will not only include the 103rd Running of the Indianapolis 500, along with other action at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May, but also the IndyCar Series’ new season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey, California.

Eight of this year’s 17 IndyCar Series races will air on NBC, representing a 60 percent increase of network television exposure over a season ago. NBCSN, entering its 12th consecutive year telecasting INDYCAR events, will air nine races. The television schedule for IndyCar Series qualifying sessions will be announced later.

All INDYCAR on-track action will be available through NBC Sports, with nearly 350 hours available between linear television and digital streaming coverage. NBC Sports Gold, NBC Sports’ direct-to-consumer streaming product, will offer a package – INDYCAR Pass – that will feature live IndyCar Series practice and qualifying sessions, same-day race airings and Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires events. Details on how to sign up for INDYCAR Pass on NBC Sports Gold will be announced soon.

This year marks the first season for NBC Sports Group as the exclusive home of INDYCAR.

“This will be the most complete and robust season of INDYCAR viewing for our fans,” said Mark Miles, president and CEO of Hulman & Company, which owns INDYCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “Fans can not only see everything that happens on the track, they can see races at their convenience on the same day via INDYCAR Pass, which until now had not been available.”

The Indianapolis 500 will air on NBC for the first time this year. “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” the largest single-day sporting event in the world, will receive special promotion with inclusion in NBC Sports’ “Championship Season” marketing campaign, a May-to-July spotlight of high-profile championship events airing on NBC Sports platforms such as horse racing’s Triple Crown, the NHL Stanley Cup Final, French Open tennis, and the Tour de France endurance cycling race.

INDYCAR coverage on NBC begins with the INDYCAR Grand Prix on Saturday, May 11 from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Following the Indianapolis 500 from the iconic IMS oval on Sunday, May 26, NBC will carry both races on Detroit’s Belle Isle street circuit (Saturday-Sunday, June 1-2) and permanent road course races at Road America (Sunday, June 23), Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Sunday, July 28), Portland International Raceway (Sunday, Sept. 1) and the finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (Sunday, Sept. 22). The races in Portland and Monterey represent a final push to crown the IndyCar Series champion live on network television.

The 2019 IndyCar Series season kicks off on NBCSN with the street race in St. Petersburg, Florida (Sunday, March 10). INDYCAR’s inaugural race at Circuit of the Americas (Sunday, March 24) also will be on NBCSN.

NBCSN will also telecast three IndyCar Series oval-track races on Saturday nights: at Texas Motor Speedway (Saturday, June 8), Iowa Speedway (Saturday, July 20) and Gateway Motorsports Park (Saturday, Aug. 24).

INDIANAPOLIS, Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019 – Race fans around the world will join with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May 2019 in a variety of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mario Andretti’s Indianapolis 500 victory, including a featured exhibit within the Speedway’s museum and a commemorative logo that was unveiled by Andretti on Jan. 9 in Indianapolis.

Andretti and IMS President J. Douglas Boles also revealed Jan. 9 some of the plans surrounding the 50th anniversary celebration during the Month of May:

•  A 50th anniversary logo was designed to celebrate Andretti’s historic victory at Indianapolis. It features Andretti giving his famous wave next to the Borg-Warner Trophy moments after winning the 500-Mile Race. The logo was illustrated with the Speedway in mind, with the zero (in the 50) representing the oval of the track and the historic Yard of Bricks start-finish line. The base of the 50 is adorned with Mario’s signature, with the badge honoring the Andretti family crest.

•  Andretti will be featured on the IMS Bronze Badges.

•  The logo also will be featured on the cover of the 2019 Indianapolis 500 Official Program, with a special artist’s rendering of his unforgettable victory.

•  Memorabilia and celebratory officially licensed Mario Andretti and IMS merchandise, including apparel, headwear, replicas, jewelry, wall décor, collectibles and other special items, will be available for purchase. 

•  As part of the 50th anniversary celebration, beginning May 1, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum will unveil a specially curated exhibit dedicated to Andretti’s iconic career. The exhibit will feature historic Andretti cars, many making their first appearance at the Museum, video and audio recordings of Mario and the Andretti family, and personal memorabilia that highlights the prestigious accomplishments of “The Driver of Century.”

Andretti won the 53rd Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 1969, driving the No. 2 STP Oil Treatment Hawk III-Ford fielded by famed team owner Andy Granatelli. The victory was one of the most noteworthy achievements of Andretti’s incomparable career, which also included a Formula One World Championship, four IndyCar championships, a Daytona 500 victory and victories in the Rolex 24 At Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring.

“Winning the Indy 500 changed my life,” Andretti said. “It opened so many doors, creating immense opportunities. It was career-changing. If only Andy Granatelli could be here today to see that we’re still celebrating 50 years later. Because what happened in 1969 was just as important to him.”

“Mario Andretti’s victory in the 1969 Indianapolis 500 was one of the iconic moments in the history of the world’s greatest auto race,” Boles said. “Mario’s position as one of the most popular drivers in the race’s history only has grown over time, and his accomplishments in every discipline of racing in which he has competed remain landmarks of our sport.
