James Hinchcliffe — Indianapolis Motor Speedway Incident — May 18, 2015 …

James Hinchcliffe driving the No. 5 Arrow/Lucas Oil Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda absorbed a very hard hit off of the outside wall in Turn 3 early this afternoon.

He was quickly attended to by the Holmatro Safety Team, who placed him on a back board for transport to Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

It appeared a part failed on the car, sending it directly toward the track wall, with the left side of the car making an intense hit against the wall. It headed back down the track surface, spinning, then turning on it’s side to finally come to rest, right side up with only two wheels firmly attached.

Indianapolis 500 Practice is now on hold indefinitely while  investigates the incident …
