With the weather forecast calling for highs in the mid 60s, northeast winds 10-15 mph (gusts up to 25 mph) along with a 50% chance of showers, Wednesday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway should prove to be quite interesting.

Under the auspices of INDYCAR vice president of technology Will Phillips, the INDYCAR Engine Group staff will conduct testing of the new DW-12 Dallara chassis “Speedway” configuration.

Specifically, the INDYCAR engine group will gather data and feedback regarding handling characteristics and performance levels from IndyCars producing about 550-570 horsepower for the oval.

Nine drivers are scheduled to participate. From the Chevrolet-powered teams will be Helio Castroneves (Penske), Marco Andretti (Andretti Autosport), Tony Kanaan (KV Racing), Ed Carpenter (Ed Carpenter Racing) and JR Hildebrand (Panther Racing). Honda-powered participants will be by Scott Dixon (Ganassi), Justin Wilson (Dale Coyne Racing), Mike Conway (A.J. Foyt Racing) and Takuma Sato (Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing).

Much to the chagrin of the five teams powered by Lotus, they will not be participating in the testing due to a concern about engine availability for upcoming races … see link here

Spectators are welcome to catch the action from 9am-noon and 1-5pm (local time) from the South Terrace grandstand and the Turn 2 viewing mounds near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum.
